Leeds nostalgia: Dance stepping back in time

Your article regarding the old Hippodrome Theatre, which closed in 1932, reminded me of my first professional appearance as a dancer.

I left school in July 1932 at 14 years of age and I had a job at the new Lewis’s store but it wasn’t going to open until September, so when I saw an advert for local girls to appear at the Hippodrome in a John Taylor’s revue in August, I applied and was accepted.

I appeared for a week and received 7/6 (38p). It was a lovely theatre, I was sotry to see it pulled down.
